The Wall Street Journal announced its 2008 innovation technology winners. For the Network/Internet Technology category, Xsigo Systems Inc. won.

"Xsigo, co-founded by Ashok Krishnamurthi, a former executive at Juniper Networks Inc., has developed hardware and software that enable a single connector to mimic the performance of as many as 14 separate cables. With the product, a technician who needs to add storage or server capacity can create a virtual connection from a control center instead of having to make a trip to the data center and physically plug in the new box," wrote Michael Totty.

What do you guys think? Is this really innovative? Would you use it?

One of the most impressive mailing solutions I have seen is by a company called Bing in Australia. Mail is sent directly from your Collection software program to their servers securely and electronically. No need to generate separate flat text files and email, just print the letters as per normal, their solution appears as a printer on your PC. They send the mail that same day and email you back returned mail files in .csv format for import back into your system. They can handle double sided and multi-page letters. They also address check.

Scrubbing and the abilities that vendors may have have to scrub addresses is important. Letter on contact is, of course, another important factor. With the cost of postage, it's best to target your audience for the highest returns. I see less and less people just sending out letters to every account in their inventory. Of course, letter vendors have NCOA and other tools useful to help lower the number of bad letters going out, but internal and external scores, among other tactics, can insure that letters are not sent on accounts that will never pay and that collection staff with never be able to contact.

What have you seen as good mailing solutions in terms of technology? What keeps costs low and the success rate of delivering letters to the right addresses high?
