Millennium lets you scrub a portion of your database for free if you call 888-252-5689 x1152. Of course as Steve points out, you need to know what to do with the updated information to get money out of your contacts.

I have followed this thread and can only surmise that the question of value for money is a key factor in the provision of a 'Skip' process or tool to assist the collections manager / credit manager in maximising recoveries from 'Goneaway's'.
The simple truth of the matter is that the % of any ledger or debt portfolio which is considered to be 'Skip' is in relative terms nuisance value and therfore attracts very little effort / spend in relation to same. That said the invoice is still due and needs to be accounted for.
The terms 'Vaildation & Compliance' are key disciplines in most Trace activity now as we are all liable for our actions in this 'Debtor Friendly' culture we operate within. My view is simply this....any trace activity must be viewed as the generation of a collection opportunity and therefore add value to the end user....
We are seeing more and more portfolios 'tagged' as skip being delivered to 'specialist' collection agents, with a panache for tracing, who are happy to absorb the cost of location within an agreed rate for collection. This is key to the vendor and removes the element of unknown costs at the outset of the engagement.
We are all constantly monitoring the value of our trace processes and must always welcome new ideas and evaluate within the 'test, learn, test' ethos.

Good Luck to all you 'Tracers' out there, as Paul rightly comments, the information Commissioner is always on your trail..........

Hi Mary,

Apart from the basic telephone enquiries, calling the home, neighbours alike and other no’s held within the account I have not used one particular tool during the years I have been in this industry, I have used various data bases which holds information on individuals an example of this here in the UK is the National Insurance No, this will tell me the home address work address or if unemployed. This is very handy for attachment of earnings under a court Judgment.

Each person will be handled in a different category by sex, age and location. The younger generation will have accounts with web sites such as facebook and alike. Without them knowingly giving us the information required.

Certain parts of towns has a high rent to purchase, these are normally the poorer areas and as such will need a different approach.

Companies such as 192.com holds the electoral role, this can be used if we have a Mr & Mrs who have moved, the only issue here is it’s 12 months behind in it’s data.

The issues today is obtaining the data without breaching the Data Protection Act which in the country is extremely tough.

And last of all if we have an agent in the area a knock on the door, even if the person has gone, the new occupier will have some information which can be used.

Hey Paul:

In your experience, what has been the most effective tool in locating your debtors? And how has it changed over time?
Paul Unwin Comment by Paul Unwin on September 8, 2008 at 8:07am
Steve,
I agree with you, tracking should be done by the inhouse team first. using the data availabe, and yes quite offtern staff do not know how to read this, or ask the right questions, hence your goodself providing the training. All I am saying is door knocking should not be ruled out. I have seen too much debt written off, with a little more effort it can be recovered.
Steve Taylor Comment by Steve Taylor on September 8, 2008 at 6:51am
Paul,
I am not a big advcate of door knocking. I provide a training program that is strictly based on a verifcation process via the phone. We train people to be able to interpret the data that that they are reading on credit reports, Accurint, First Data, Locate Plus, etc. Most of the time they just do not know how to read the data in front of them. Also we train them how to obtain non pubs and valid POE information.
