Unemployment Rate Drops, a Little

Take what I can get is how I feel about good news these days. And today's news offers a little something hopeful: a slightly improved unemployment rate.

In January, the unemployment rate dipped to 9.7%, the lowest rate since August. No doubt the Great Recession is still kicking [20,000 payrolls were still shed in January], but at least the unemployment rate took a small break from growing.

How Will the Collections Industry Change?

The collections industry carries a stigma among consumers. In a recession, that stigma is more acute.

Not surprisingly, debate keeps heating up over nebulous laws and industry practices, especially when something really does go wrong [Think Dateline]. Change is definately in the air and what is inevitable are law revisions. The FDCPA will be modernized; it's just a question of when.
